For anyone potentially interested in volunteering and wondering if this is a right fit for you, it most likely is! Croton EMS has multiple different positions for anyone who's willing to answer the call.
Active roles include, but are not limited to Attendants, Drivers, and EMTs. These members are the bread and butter of our agency and without them we would not be able to operate to the level we do.
Attendants: are members who are CPR/First aid certified that are able to go on calls as part of the crew and assist with patient care and scene operations.
Drivers: are members who take either a CEVO (coaching the emergency vehicle operator) or EVOC (emergency vehicle operator) course and complete Croton EMS's driver training program. To do so you have to possess a valid NYS Drivers License, be 18 years of older and have a minimum of operating a motor vehicle for at least 2 years in all types of weather conditions. Once completed you can have the responsibility of driving both of our ambulances to/from calls, standbys or events, transporting to/from hospitals and driving both in an emergency response lights and sirens and speed normal traffic.
EMTs: are members who either already possess their NYS or National Registry EMT Certificate or join as an attendant seeking to take a local EMT course. EMTs are riding the ambulance as a technician being the main person responsible for treating patients. Anyone the age of 17 years old or up can take an EMT course. You're never too young or too old to learn new things and help your neighbors.
Croton EMS provides all trainings free of charge to members.
If going on calls and riding the ambulance isn't your thing, we offer social memberships where you are able to join multiple different committees and help with all the behind the scenes operations of Croton EMS.
