If you're thinking of joining Croton EMS but arent 100% sure of what it entails here are some helpful tips of what we require from a member:
- NO prior Medical or EMS experience necessary.
- Croton EMS will teach you and provide you with all the tools necessary to succeed.
- Prospective members of Croton EMS do not need to reside within Croton-on-Hudson to become a member. Croton EMS accepts people that live in all neighboring towns/villages.
- Members are asked to do a minimum of 16 hours per month. This can be fufilled in several ways. Some of the most common ways are through responding on calls, in-house duty hours, attending monthly membership meetings, attending trainings/rig checks, serving on committees and participating in any event Croton EMS is a part of.
- Once you have been voted in as a member, you start your probationary period and will be assigned a mentor to help you. Your probationary period can last up to 6 months. Within those 6 months you are expected to come to rig checks, trainings and become familiar with the other members, ambulances, equipment, basic operations, and communications.
- Members are encouraged to spend time in the newly renovated station to become more familiar and proficient in the daily operations of the agency. In order to pass your probationary period, all members are required to attain a minimum certification of CPR/First Aid (training provided) and complete the short online courses for ICS 100, 200, and 700. We also require all members to annually complete village-mandated trainings such as workplace violence, sexual harassment, and bloodborne pathogens.
