Croton EMS is proud to be able to offer the younger community of Croton on Hudson with an Explorer Post. The Explorer Post is a venturing crew unit affiliated with The Boy Scouts of America and Croton EMS. Youths interested in joining do not need any previous experience or training in order to apply.
Once an accepted member, Explorers will receive CPR and First Aide certifications and be able to start attending trainings and sign up for shifts. Youths are given the ability to learn, train and be part of something bigger themselves starting at the age of 14. Explorers are able attend rig checks, training nights, learn what everything on the ambulance is, what it does and how everything works and start honing their skills as a young medical provider.
Explorer ages 14-16 are able to go on calls and be able to ride as an attendant with the presence of an advisor. At 16 years and up, youths can ride the ambulance as crew (3rd/attendant) without the need for an advisor. At the age of 17 Explorers are now able to attend and receive their NYS and National Registry EMT Certification and start riding as and treating patients as a certified NYS EMT.
For anyone in high school looking for a fun way to volunteer, learn more and gain experience in the medical field or just looking to gain new experiences then this could be for you! Please reach out to explorerpost5500@crotonemsinc.org for membership inquiries.
